New Guidelines for Infant Vitamin D Intake
The American Academy of Pediatrics recently released new guidelines on vitamin D intake for breastfed infants. Under these new guidelines, it is recommended that all breastfed infants take 400 IU of vitamin D daily, whether or not they are being supplemented with formula. Enfamil D-Vi-Sol is an available product that provides this amount in each dose. It is important that infants, children, and adolescents receive adequate amounts of vitamin D to prevent Rickets, a severe form of vitamin D deficiency. New research also suggests that adequate vitamin D supplementation reduces that development of type 1 diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases, and infections.
