Where is the Sudafed?

New requirements of the federal Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act passed by Congress for the sale of all single and multi-ingredient pseudoephedrine and ephedrine containing products became effective in March of 2006. The new law places non-prescription ephedrine, pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine (voluntarily withdrawn from the market several years ago and very unlikely that patients are currently taking this product) under sales restrictions, storage requirements and record keeping requirements.

What does this mean to the consumer? You must ask for these products, they are behind the pharmacy counter. You must sign for these products, there are limits as to how much you can purchase. You must be 18 years old and show identification and sign a log book.

A summary of this Act's specific requirements can be found on the United States Drug Enforcement Administration's web site at www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/meth/cma2005.htm.
