Elidel and Protopic In The News:

You may have heard negative comments about Elidel cream or Protopic ointment in the news lately. If you are concerned about continued use of these agents on your children, please review the manufacturers statements to find the whole story. Many times the news media does not give complete information but uses inappropriate lead lines. There are some studies on rats where medications were given orally (they ate the medication) and in large doses and some rats developed cancer. Does this mean that using very low doses topically (rubbing on the skin) causes cancer? Long term studies show no correlation. Please discuss the use of the these medications with your physician if you have any concerns.
